On October 26 a single week training course on the advanced radionuclide activity measurement techniques was completed at Chornobyl NPP. Experts from the LOKMIS company (Lithuania) shared their expertise with ChNPP staff.

Continual improvement of radiochemical analysis approaches and methods as well as operations during sample preparation and measurements using complex equipment has become the prerequisite for conducting the training course, since the up-to-date methods of radiochemical analysis and radionuclide activity measurements require continual practical and theoretical sustainment and enhancement for personnel.

The main task of the course was to provide the personnel of ChNPP laboratory with qualified training on methods of measuring alpha, beta and gamma activity of radionuclides. Special attention was focused on Agilent 7500 ICP MS mass spectrometer, which is used by the ChNPP water and radiochemistry measuring laboratory.

    New mock-up of Chornobyl NPP

Creation of an absolutely new mock-up of Chornobyl NPP industrial site is underway in one of the premises at the 3rd floor of ChNPP Administrative Building. The project was started 2 years ago and now it is at the final stage.

Initially, the mock-up makers planned just to renovate the old Plant’s mock-up, located in the Mock-up Hall in the Administrative Building. Of course, this mock-up had its zest - it showed how the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant would have looked like if the accident not occurred: with the completed third stage Units, with a full-flowing pond, two cooling towers and without the Shelter object and NSC Arch. However, by the time of the renovation beginning, he had served for 30 years, dilapidated and morally and physically obsolete. After examining all the pros and cons, the authors abandoned the idea of renovation in favor of creating a fundamentally new mock-up, reflecting a modern status of ChNPP and providing opportunities for interactivity.

The official opening ceremony of the SOLAR CHERNOBYL Solar Power Plant (hereinafter – SPP) was held at the Chornobyl NPP industrial site on 5 October. The event was attended by the Acting Director General of SSE ChNPP Valeriy Seyda, CEO of Solar Chernobyl Limited and Consortium “RODINA - ENERPARC AG” Yevhen Variahin, Co-founder and Shareholder of “Enerparc AG” Stefan Muller, Executive Director of “Enerparc International GmbH” Oliver Herzog, senior staff of Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine, delegation of German-Ukrainian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Ukraine), delegation of Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, representatives of SC “Energorynok”, and others.

“Chornobyl NPP was named the first one a number of times. The first NPP of Ukraine, the first NPP being under decommissioning, the first NPP where the large-scale projects are under implementation... Today we are the first NPP at the site of which the alternative energy is being generated. I believe that this is very positive that electrical capacities are present at the Plant again, and they are in commercial production – electrical energy is being produced,” – mentioned Mr. Seyda in the course of the celebrations on the occasion of opening the SPP.
