    Solar Power Plant was officially opened at Chornobyl NPP

    The official opening ceremony of the SOLAR CHERNOBYL Solar Power Plant (hereinafter – SPP) was held at the Chornobyl NPP industrial site on 5 October. The event was attended by the Acting Director General of SSE ChNPP Valeriy Seyda, CEO of Solar Chernobyl Limited and Consortium “RODINA - ENERPARC AG” Yevhen Variahin, Co-founder and Shareholder of “Enerparc AG” Stefan Muller, Executive Director of “Enerparc International GmbH” Oliver Herzog, senior staff of Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine, delegation of German-Ukrainian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Ukraine), delegation of Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, representatives of SC “Energorynok”, and others.

    “Chornobyl NPP was named the first one a number of times. The first NPP of Ukraine, the first NPP being under decommissioning, the first NPP where the large-scale projects are under implementation... Today we are the first NPP at the site of which the alternative energy is being generated. I believe that this is very positive that electrical capacities are present at the Plant again, and they are in commercial production – electrical energy is being produced,” – mentioned Mr. Seyda in the course of the celebrations on the occasion of opening the SPP.

    Chornobyl NPP was visited by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission

    On 3rd of October the Chornobyl NPP was visited by representatives of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (hereinafter – NRC) led by the NRC’s Commissioner the Honorable Stephen G. Burns. The U.S. colleagues were accompanied by the Chairman of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (hereinafter – SNRIU) Hryhorii Plachkov and SNRIU’s staff.

    The Commissioner and his attendants visited the Interim Spent Fuel Dry-type Storage Facility (ISF-2) where they were briefed on the technologies for the SNF management and storage, as well as techniques that will ensure the technological process after the ISF-2 commissioning. Also they went to see the New Safe Confinement (NSC) construction site and the space under the NSC’s Arch. The guests were mostly interested in the further actions regarding the existing Shelter Object, in particular, plans of dismantling the Shelter’s unstable structures and bringing it into the state of environmentally safe system. In addition, the guests visited the ChNPP former satellite city Prypiat.

    UNDP Delegation visited Chornobyl NPP

    UNDP delegation led by Ms. Osnat Lubrani, UN Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP) in Ukraine, visited the Chornobyl NPP with a familiarization visit. The visit took place within the official opening of the Information Center "Chornobyl: the Territory of Change" coordinated by the State Enterprise "Center for Organizational, Technical and Information Support of the Exclusion Zone Management".

    The guests visited the New Safe Confinement observation pavilion and the construction site of the Dry-type Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility (ISF-2), where ChNPP Technical Director (-Chief Engineer) Andrii Bilyk provided them with the details of these Projects implementation, the status of work progress to date. He also answered numerous questions about the Plant’s history and about the Chornobyl accident and elimination of its consequences, in particular the Shelter Object construction and its transformation into environmentally safe system.

    Operation of BROKK-180 manipulators: achievement of the expert level

    Last week, experts from the Belgian company Tecnubel delivered a second in-depth training course in practical use of multifunctional manipulators BROKK-180 at ChNPP industrial site.

    This equipment is used in the Industrial Complex for Solid Radioactive Waste Management (hereinafter: ICSRM). This time, the training was delivered for the senior operational personnel of the Industrial Complex, in particular senior engineers and operational engineers.

    BROKK-180 manipulator is used to Remove Solid Radioactive Waste. Auxiliary attachments can be fitted to it, including hydraulic hammer, concrete crusher, chain saws, hydraulic shears, bucket, etc. The multi-functionality of the manipulator makes it unexpendable in the Waste Management process. It makes it possible to remotely perform a number of different manipulations.

    Exhibit items of Chornobyl NPP are presented at stand “CHORNOBYL: The Territory of Change” at the international exhibition in Vienna

    Ceremonial opening of the international exhibition was held in the United Nations Office at Vienna within the framework of the 62nd General Conference of IAEA. The exhibition will run until 21st of September. Both the Chornobyl NPP, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management and Ukraine in general for the first time ever take part in such event with their own stand.

    The Chornobyl NPP in this event is represented by Vitalii Medvid, Head of International Cooperation and Information Department, and Ihor Lyshylenko, employee of IT and Computing Systems Department.

    About 20 countries have presented their expositions at the exhibition. The Ukrainian stand demonstrates the achievements of Ukraine in the Chornobyl disaster’s consequences elimination, the ChNPP decommissioning and the Shelter Object transformation into an environmentally safe system, as well as the positive potential of the Exclusion Zone.
