On 19 June 2025, a delegation from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) visited the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The visit was aimed at monitoring of projects implemented by the DSA in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. The guests discussed the results of cooperation between Norway and Ukraine in overcoming the Chornobyl accident consequences.
During the visit, the delegation visited the New Safe Confinement (NSC), familiarized with its condition and functioning, as well as with the damage caused by the russian UAV hit on 14 February 2025.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the current problems and needs of the Chornobyl NPP to ensure nuclear and radiation safety. First of all, this is the restoration of the NSC's functionality.
As a result of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine, since July 2022, the logistics of Chornobyl NPP personnel transportation to their workplaces located on the industrial site of the plant have undergone fundamental changes. Therefore, during the discussion of the enterprise's priority needs, special attention was paid to resolution of the problems, connected with operational and rotation personnel transportation to their workplaces.
This visit is an important step in continuation of the international cooperation and exchange of experience between Ukraine and Norway, in particular in nuclear safety and the Chornobyl NPP and the Exclusion zone remediation.
