Today is the 39 -th anniversary of the day that was forever engraved in the history of mankind. On 26 April 1986, the world witnessed one of the largest man-made disasters - that of the explosion at the Unit 4 of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. On this day, the staff of the Chornobyl NPP held some memorial events to commemorate the liquidators` heroism, their courage and self-sacrifice for the safety of the whole world.
First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienkо, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Svitlana Hrynchuk,Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets, SNRIU Chairman Oleh Korikov, people`s deputies of Ukraine, Managers of Regional Military Administration, Representatives of Embassies accredited in Ukraine from 16 countries, Head of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, liquidators, managers and personnel of SSE "Chornobyl NPP" and other enterprises of the Exclusion Zone took part in the еvents dedicated to the 39-th anniversary of the Chornobyl catastrophe.
In the addressed speeches, the official speakers expressed their gratitude to the participants of the 1986 accident response and honoured the memory of those who gave their lives in the struggle for the opportunity to live on the Ukrainian land. The speakers emphasised that the Chornobyl disaster was a dramatic lesson for humanity and a strict warning about responsibility for the actions of modern science and their impact on human lives and health and the environmental safety of the planet.
The 1986 tragedy, the occupation of the Exclusion Zone and ChNPP in 2022, the russian drone hitting the Arch of the New Safe Confinement in February 2025 are threats to the safety of not only Ukraine but also the entire world.
The liquidators of the 1986 Chornobyl accident, rescuers of the State Emergency Service, personnel of the Chornobyl NPP, and the National Guard, who eliminated the consequences of the russian drone hitting the NSC Arch, were awarded with departmental awards, awards of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the awards of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
