On June 2-3, specialists of Chornobyl NPP are taking part in the international workshop “Digital twins in lifecycle of nuclear facilities. From construction of an NPP to its operation and decommissioning.”

Digital Twin is a complex digital model of the environment or system that uses real data to create simulations and predictions without affecting the actual analog. It enables verifying hypotheses, testing products, and helping identify bottlenecks and/or problems in a process or a physical object before they occur.

Digital Twins’ software uses tools of artificial intelligence, data modeling and analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), augmented, virtual and artificial reality.

At this workshop, the ChNPP is presented by a report from experts of the Strategic Planning Department titled "The Chornobyl NPP information model in combination with the decommissioning information support system.”

"Our Plant has been using digital twins in its work for several years. Detailed 3D models of most objects have been developed at the ChNPP. We use them for work planning, simulations, and even for calculating the safest personnel routes in terms of radiation safety.

Without these technologies, many processes would require much more time and financial costs, so we hope to further develop their applications in our work," comments Dmytro Stelmakh, Head of ChNPP Strategic Planning Department.

The event takes place at the ChNPP Training Center in Slavutych. The main organizer is the City Regional Development Agency. Among the co-organizers are “Energoatom”, SSE Chornobyl NPP, State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants, and others.

International participants: University of Bristol (UK), University of Berkeley (USA) and Plejades GmbH (Germany).
