On 19 June 2025, a delegation from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) visited the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The visit was aimed at monitoring of projects implemented by the DSA in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. The guests discussed the results of cooperation between Norway and Ukraine in overcoming the Chornobyl accident consequences.
During the visit, the delegation visited the New Safe Confinement (NSC), familiarized with its condition and functioning, as well as with the damage caused by the russian UAV hit on 14 February 2025.
As a part of the International Technical Assistance provided by the IAEA, the Chornobyl NPP has received a measuring equipment that is necessary for radioactive waste (RAW) and radioactive materials (RM) management.
According to Oleksii Miasnykov, Head of the Integrated Radioactive Material Management Department, the α-β radiometer and spectrum photometer provided by the IAEA allow wider opportunities for measuring and characterizing RAW and RM:
Today is the 39 -th anniversary of the day that was forever engraved in the history of mankind. On 26 April 1986, the world witnessed one of the largest man-made disasters - that of the explosion at the Unit 4 of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. On this day, the staff of the Chornobyl NPP held some memorial events to commemorate the liquidators` heroism, their courage and self-sacrifice for the safety of the whole world.
12.04.2025 High-level delegation visited Chornobyl NPP and the Exclusion zone: The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine.
A significant part of the working visit was devoted to the opening of a photovoltaic power plant in Chornobyl town, which is ready for commissioning and connected to the unified energy system of Ukraine. In total, it consists of 2244 monocrystalline solar modules on an area of 13 thousand square meters. The plant's capacity is 762 kWh of clean energy, which will be used to meet partially needs of Chornobyl town, the facilities of the SSE CSE.
The equipment received under the IAEA technical cooperation project is intended to test concrete for frost resistance with an operating temperature of -20 - 50⁰С. It can significantly accelerate the technological process of reinforced concrete containers manufacturing used in the process of liquid radioactive waste management at the Chornobyl NPP.
The accelerated method of determining the frost resistance index in the technological process of shielded containers manufacturing for treated LRAW storage allows reducing the time for concrete testing from 100 days to 20 days.
On 3 April, a delegation of French and Ukrainian high-ranking officials visited the Chornobyl NPP industrial site. Svitlana Grynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, together with Pierre Heilbronn, Special Envoy of the President of the French Republic for Ukraine's Relief and Reconstruction and representatives of the French Embassy in Ukraine, visited critical ChNPP facilities and the results of the Russian drone hit in the NSC. The guests visited the premises under the New Confinement Arch, the North Garage of the main crane system as well as the dry spent fuel storage facility (ISF-2). In particular, the delegation visited the “Solar Chornobyl-1” solar power plant located on the industrial site.
On 31 March 2025, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Ihor Bezkaravaynyi held a meeting at the ChNPP site with the heads of enterprises located in the Exclusion zone and the zone of unconditional (mandatory) resettlement to discuss strategies for humanitarian demining measures implementation, which is an important stage for the development of scientific and industrial activities in the Chornobyl zone.
The Ministry of Economy emphasises the importance of humanitarian demining for the Chornobyl zone and development, as well as for the fulfilment of Ukraine's international obligations in the field of mine action.
